While the probability of any car surpassing the Mercedes-Benz S-Class for the sheer number of LEDs used throughout is slim, that doesn’t detract in any way from the fact that other cars have (fewer of) them too. Many new models boast LEDs and the modern and rather futuristic looking NX crossover from Lexus is no exception.
It features up to 90 diodes used for external lights – the number peaks for NX300h models in Luxury, F-Sport and Premier trims, as these get low-beam LEDs, daytime runners, fog lights and rear clusters without a tungsten filament in sight – courtesy lamps behind the door handles add to the tally, as well.
Lexus says it’s all pretty smart too: “the NX 300h has a welcoming lighting sequence that begins as soon as you approach the car, carrying the key. As you draw near, welcome LEDs illuminate the door handles and shine down on the ground immediately below. At the same time the Remote Touch Interface touch pad will light up in the cabin (where fitted).”
Inside, LEDs provide illumination for interior map reading lights and footwells – for the former, touch controls are employed for the first time in a Lexus.
We say it would have been really weird for a car that looks this sharp and bold not to have all the LEDs it could carry – they fit its character; if anything, it’s the kind of vehicle whose character would definitely not make having laser headlights awkward.
