The new and quite big MINI five-door hatchback is expected to be a big seller. It costs £600 more than the equivalent three-door, but offers notably more space and practicality – the wheelbase is lengthened by 72 mm, while the boot gains 67 more liters of cargo volume.
In the UK, the five-door range will start at £14,350, with the One – it features a 1.2-liter three-pot turbo with 102 hp. At the other end of the lineup is the Cooper S which, like the three-door, features a big 2.0-liter turbo with 192 hp – it bumps up the price to £19,255, though it’s the SD model that’s the dearest, starting at £20,050.
The MINI hatch can be had in 13 exterior color finish options, with the usual huge range of customization options.
BMW still promises it retains the go-kart like handling (a message that’s displayed on the car’s info screen whenever you select Sport mode), but peppers it with more practicality than it’s ever had – rear occupants will enjoy 72 more millimeters of legroom and 15 more for headroom; the back gets three individual seats too, to make full use of the 61-millimeter extra width.
