Tesla and Toyota signed an agreement a few months back that would see the Silicon Valley-based manufacturer supplying the battery packs for an upcoming electric Japanese crossover.

Now, though, it seems that the collaboration could extend to other projects within the next two to three years, even if its details are still not clear.

The information came directly from Tesla CEO and co-founder Elon Musk, who called the possible project “significant,” according to AutoNews. The source report does make it clear that there currently are no plans for anything of the sort and that it may or may not happen.

By significant, Musk meant higher volume model, though it really is far too early to make anything remotely resembling accurate predictions – Toyota doesn’t even like battery-powered EVs to begin with, while Tesla thinks Toyota’s approach to electrics (and powering them through hydrogen fuel cells) is “so BS”.

Even so, Musk, who attended the ceremony for the first Model S deliveries in Japan, did concede that they “love working with Toyota,” and that they “have a huge amount of respect for them as a company and certainly much to learn.”
