It makes perfectly reasonable sense to believe the next generation SRT Viper could ditch natural aspiration for its V10 engine, in favor of some kind of boost. Its parent company is already selling a two-door (and even a four-door) with more horsepower than the Viper.
The 640 hp that the current Viper (pictured) makes is no longer that impressive compared to the Challenger Hellcat’s 707 hp, even if the Viper is considerably more sophisticated, purposeful (and probably faster too).
Bolting a supercharger onto the V10, as suggested by this insider information-based report posted on Allpar, could give Chrysler free reign to give the Viper however many horses they please, even 1,000.
The source (which says it has two distinct tips that Chrysler received supercharged V10 motors) does offer a more conservative estimate of 800-ish horsepower which sounds more reasonable and wouldn’t necessarily warrant a complete redesign of the drivetrain.
We will follow the story and let you know when something comes up!
