Federal safety regulators are investigating around 160,000 Dodge Grand Caravans from the 2007MY after a consumer complaint alleging a defect in the fuel system that caused the engine to stall.
“The petitioner alleges a defect in the fuel system of model year (MY) 2007 Dodge Grand Caravans causes the vehicle to stall, without warning, after refueling and that repair requires fuel tank replacement,” said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Tuesday.
We found a related consumer complaint on NHTSA’s website from July 2, 2014, which reads:
“Our 2007 Grand Caravan SXT has about 44,000 miles on it and it has begun stalling after refueling. This only happens when the fuel tank is refueled to full capacity. The problem started about a month ago. Today, my wife (with kids in car) stalled on the highway. The danger was that she was on a turn and the steering wheel became impossible for her to turn it.
This is a major safety issue, and my hope is that Chrysler makes good on a defective part. (I see they did that after a gov’t investigation of a similar nature for other cars…after an investigation by NHTSA!) ***this is a widespread issue for vehicles from 2004 to 2013.”
Reuters reported that the safety agency has received a number of similar complaints regarding engine stalling on the related Chrysler Town & Country.
