We’ve seen many BMW i8 reviews so far, but no one thought about a drag race between the Bavarian firm’s most sophisticated model and a conventional sports car.
No one except EVO, that is, with the British magazine staging a drag race between the BMW i8 and the Porsche 911 Carrera S.
For some reason, the latter was not a stock model though, as it featured the factory-fitted Powerkit package, which lifts output from 400 to 430 horsepower. That’s considerably more than the i8’s combined output of 357hp (362PS) from its hybrid powertrain.
Still, the 911 has 100 lb-ft (135 Nm) of torque less than the BMW i8, with the latter also having the advantage of four-wheel drive – the 911 Carrera S is rear-wheel drive only.
So, will the high-tech powertrain of the BMW i8 be able to accelerate it faster than the 911, which still relies on the good old internal combustion engine? Scroll down to find out.
