Renault has released the first official photos of the all-new Espace MPV ahead of its world debut at the Paris Auto Show.
Taking inspiration from the Initiale Paris concept car unveiled at last year’s Frankfurt Auto Show, the new Espace is described by Renault as “a large, elegant and innovative crossover,” rather than an MPV. Come to think of it, the Espace’s muscular stance and raised ground clearance do remind of crossovers.
Despite that, the new Renault Espace will be offered with five- and seven-seat versions which feature “ingenious interior modularity,” with the carmaker also saying it has paid a great deal of attention to detail with regard to the new car’s design and build. While there are no photos of the interior available yet, the new Espace is said to offer a “brightly-lit, comfortable and modular” cabin, also described as occupant-friendly. A floating center console is mentioned too.
Renault hasn’t offered any other details, but it will be interesting to see if the Espace offers four-wheel drive availability. What we do know is that the new Espace rides on the Renault-Nissan alliance’s new CFM1 scalable platform architecture, with the engine lineup believed to include a range of downsized and efficient four-cylinder petrol and diesel turbos.
One thing is clear though: the new Espace aims to combine the practicality and modularity of an MPV with the looks and (possibly) the off-road capabilities of an SUV. And the fact that it manages to wrap these attributes in such a stylish package is no small feat. Stay tuned for more details on the new Espace as we get closer to its world debut at the Paris Auto Show on October 2.
