I can’t think of a better proof that we live in a globalized world than this: a Renault-owned plant from South Korea builds Nissan Rogue SUVs for the US market.
Yes, the first 4,000 Nissan Rogue vehicles built at Renault Samsung Motors’ plant in Busan, South Korea, were shipped to North America today. The SUVs will be sold as of October in the United States and Canada.
As it was announced late last year, production of the new Nissan Rogue has begun in South Korea as well, with most vehicles built there being destined for the United States. The Busan plant started making Nissan Rogue SUVs in August and is expected to build 80,000 units a year over the next five years. The Rogue is expected to make up nearly 30 percent of the plant’s annual capacity target.
“Nissan Rogue exports to North America will serve as the foundation for Renault Samsung Motors to launch new models strengthening its future competitiveness,” said Renault’s Chairman of Asia-Pacific Region, Gilles Normand. Nissan North America Vice President Pierre Loing added that the Korean plant will satisfy the shortage of Rogue volume in North America, particularly on the West Coast.
Renault Samsung Motors is an important asset for Renault as the French carmaker is focusing on increasing sales outside Europe, particularly in fast-growing Asia-Pacific markets.
