A 2015 Ford F-250 Super Duty XL with AWD will cost you US$33,840 (AU$36,300) in the USA, excluding delivery fees and taxes; to get the same truck in Australia, you’ll pay almost three times as much.
Ford doesn’t officially offer the F-250 in the land Down Under, but independent American vehicle importer Performax International does, and after converting the trucks to right-hand drive and making all the necessary changes to conform to local regulations, the starting price of the truck shoots to AU$105,000 (US$98,100).
The most expensive version is the F-250 Platinum with navigation priced from AU$134,000 (US$125,200).
All trucks are powered by a 6.7-liter V8 common-rail turbo-diesel delivering 328kW (440hp) and 1,166Nm (859.9 lb-ft) of torque, linked to a six-speed automatic and four-wheel drive, offering a massive five-tonne towing capacity.
“We’re tremendously proud of this latest achievement, which is the pinnacle of all our years of experience and perseverance with quality standards,” Performax General Manager Glenn Soper said.
“Old-fashioned conversion methods are no longer acceptable to customers buying these sophisticated [Ed.Note: sic] new American pick-ups. In engineering, electronics and final fit and finish, the Performax Difference ensures we build every vehicle to factory-original quality standards,” he added.
Queensland-based Performax International has been in the business of converting left-hand drive (LHD) models to right-hand drive (RHD) for the past 25 years and was recently approved as a full-volume manufacturer by the Australian government.
You may remember Performax from its RHD conversion of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS that carried a starting price of AU$128,500 in Australia.
