We heard the rumors about Audi developing a plug-in hybrid version for the next-gen Q7 badged the e-tron and now, we have photographic proof.

Along with the electrical warning stickers used for safety purposes in case of an accident, this Q7 PHEV prototype also featured a “fuel” cap on either side of the car, one for filling up with gas and the other for electricity.

While Audi officials haven’t disclosed any information on the powertrain choices for the second-generation Q7, the group already offers a plug-in hybrid unit on the current Porsche Cayenne SE-Hybrid.

If Audi doesn’t try to differentiate the Q7 from the Cayenne by placing a diesel unit, then it should share the same 3.0-liter supercharged V6 gasoline engine connected to an electric motor producing up to 100hp with the Porsche.

Reports have suggested that the new Q7 could debut as early as this fall at the Paris Motor Show, but nothing is official yet.
