At any given point and no matter how many new models are revealed to the public, automotive engineers are always working on the next crop of vehicles.

Ford is no exception with the Blue Oval having several models in the pipeline. These shots come courtesy of our official Colorado car-scooper Brett Borgard, who lost count of the number of Ford models passing by his camera.

“Here are a bunch of Fords that I spotted today in Summit County Colorado high altitude testing,” Brett told Carscoops. “Looks like a Mustang, Ford ST, and maybe an Explorer were out on a beautiful Saturday in Dillion Colorado in Summit County. There were about 12 cars making laps around town, coming in and out about every hour.”

We’ll agree with everything Brett said sans the Focus’ moniker, which may deviously read “ST” on the black prototype, but we believe it’s a test mule for the upcoming “RS” flagship as it features the same set of upgrades as the European testers of the same model, including the unique exhaust layout outlined on the bumper attachment.

Interestingly, Ford brought along a previous generation of the European market Focus RS which relied on a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-five for its motivation. The new Focus RS is expected to borrow the latest Mustang’s 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four.

The Blue Oval has us slightly confused with its Explorer SUV prototypes, as one of the cars had camouflage only on its front end, while the other one, was covered from top to bottom. The Explorer already counts close to four years in the market, so it’s very likely that Ford is preparing a mid-cycle facelift.

As for the Mustang, we don’t know what to make of it yet – it could be anything (from a new edition to a model year update) or it could be nothing.

Scoop shot props to Brett Borgard!
