While not particularly fast, particularly light or particularly sharp to drive, the new Ford Mustang makes sense in EcoBoost trim.

Its engine isn’t at all high-revving, and most of the fun happens in the mid range, but that’s not necessarily a negative point, particularly from the standpoint of everyday usability.

MotorTrend tried it out in the latest episode of Ignition and found a lot to like. They concluded that while it may not be the most exciting Mustang (or sports car, for that matter), it’s far from bad and for accelerating onto highway onramps it really is perfect. The torque from the 2.3-liter engine helps it surge along, making it notably quicker than the previous-gen V6.

That’s as it should be, because this turbo Mustang is placed one step up from the V6 in the current range too.

Another point to note is the extra stiffness of the chassis, which shone through during the usual track test around Streets of Willow.
