The refreshed Volkswagen Polo GTI has gone on sale in Germany with a €22,275 ($28,225) starting price for the standard version with a six-speed manual gearbox. The model with the six-speed DSG transmission starts from €23,750 ($30,094).

Sporting a new 1.8-liter TSI engine producing 192PS (190hp) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque, the new VW Polo GTI sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 236 km/h (147 mph).

Despite producing 12PS and 70Nm (52 lb-ft) more than the 1.4-liter TSI engine in the previous Polo GTI, the Euro6-compliant engine improves the hot-hatch’s economy figures, with a combined fuel consumption of 5.6 l/100 km (42 mpg US) and CO2 emissions of 129 g/km for the version with the 6-speed DSG transmission. With the standard six-speed manual gearbox, the Polo GTI averages 6 l/100 km (39.2 mpg US) and 139 g/km CO2.

For those who want a sharper driving experience, VW offers the optional “Sport Select” chassis with electronically adjustable dampers, as well as a “Sport Performance Kit.” LED headlights are also among the new optional extras.

Compared with the standard VW Polo, the GTI gets exclusive bumpers, side skirts, 17-inch alloy wheels, sports suspension, fog lights and red accents. Inside, the Polo GTI gains a sports steering wheel, instrument cluster and sports seats similar to those from the bigger Golf GTI.

The VW Polo GTI also gets redesigned infotainment options from the facelifted Polo, with three radio-CD systems and a CD radio navigation system being available. Among the features offered are Bluetooth audio streaming and MirrorLink smartphone apps that can be accessed from the car’s touchscreen.
