The Lamborghini SUV (possibly named Urus) is still expected to go into production in 2017. Lamborghini parent Audi still wants to see the model get made, but according to a recent report, it fears a possible downturn of the world market which would bring an inherent drop in demand for such a vehicle.
UK magazine Autocar brings fresh information to the table thanks to “a high-ranking Lamborhini official” who spoke under the shroud of anonymity. The source said:
“We are convinced the Urus can significantly boost global sales, but the financial conditions need to be sound. Right now, there are signs we may be heading for a downturn in the markets due to various factors, including trouble in the Middle East, although this is not reflected in the current sales situation, which puts us ahead of 2013.”
These fears don’t mean it’s going to be canceled, since the unnamed source is right in saying it would give Lambo a major infusion of cash (the SUV is expected to cost the equivalent of €225,000 or ~$290,000 a pop) – more people would want it than those who currently want what the automaker is offering at this time.
We’ll see how this develops, but know that if all out war breaks out in Iraq/Syria, then the Urus may not be the only upcoming luxury car to see the axe before the light of day…
