Not only is Honda hard at work finalizing development (and testing) of its first ever turbocharged VTEC engine, for use in the upcoming Civic Type-R, but it’s also working on a very different force-fed unit for F1.
We knew about the collaboration it announced with McLaren back in May of 2013, and now we get to lay eyes on the turbo V6 for the very first time.
The engine itself is not yet finalized, though, and as Yasuhisa Arai, the man behind the project, explained “at this time, we are unveiling an image of our power unit that is under development. The whole team is concentrating on this development, getting ready for the forthcoming start of F1 participation in 6 months.”
We also hear what it sounds like too, thanks to a slightly older video that was uploaded on the day of the Japanese Grand Prix, on October 6; it’s posted below.
