Blink and you might miss it; that’s how fast the new Corvette Z06 is with GM confirming a 0-60mph (96km/h) time of 2.95 seconds and a quarter-mile run in 10.95 seconds for the 8speed auto.
The seven-speed manual gearbox edition of the 650HP 6.2-liter V8-powered Corvette Z06 might be more fun and engaging, but it’s a tad slower as it accelerates from a rest to 60mph in 3.2 seconds and completes the quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds.
With either gearbox, the Corvette Z06 reaches 127mph (204.3 km/h) at the end of the quarter-mile.
The Z06 is pretty competent when it comes to braking as well, coming to a full stop from 60mph (96km/h) in 99.6 feet (30.36 meters), which GM says, is the best braking performance of any production car it has ever tested.
Want more numbers? The new Corvette Z06 achieves 1.2 g in lateral acceleration compared with the Corvette’s previous best 1.13 g, while GM states that it’s “also the fastest production car ever tested at GM’s 2.9-mile Milford Road Course, beating the record set by the Corvette ZR1 by a full second”.
The 2015 Corvette Z06 coupe will go on sale in in early 2015 with a starting price of $78,995, while the Z06 convertible will arrive in the second quarter, priced from $83,995.
