Audi needed to do something significant with its next-gen TT, since the competition it was going to face was more diversified than ever.

It retained the familiar shape, but infused it with the kind of sharp lines it never really had – it still doesn’t look as good as the Sport Quattro concept, but it’s not bad either.

It also needed to up its game in terms of the driving experience it offered, as XCar explains in their video review.

It was the mediocre driving experience that always made TT fall victim to the usual hairdresser’s car jokes. You needed to get one of the very top ones to really feel like you were in a sports car. In fact, Audi nearly overdid it with the TT-RS Plus, which was R8-fast…

The new TT will, without a doubt be popular, but I really still don’t know where the appeal stems from exactly – it’s there, but just hard to peg down.
