Mazda’s new generation supermini will go on sale across Europe in the beginning of 2015 with a choice of four 1.5-liter diesel and petrol Skyactiv engines, the automaker announced.
There are three 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G petrol units delivering 75PS (74hp) and 135Nm, 90PS (89hp) and 148Nm, and 115PS (113hp) and 148Nm, the latter fitted with Mazda’s i-ELOOP regenerative braking system that recycles kinetic energy to help power the car’s electronics resulting in around 5 percent better fuel economy.
Completing the range is the 1.5-liter Skyactiv-D turbo diesel with 105PS (104hp) and 220Nm. This is the most frugal engine offered in the new Mazda2 returning a combined 3.4l/100km, equal to 83.1mpg UK and 69.2mpg US.
The 75PS and 90PS petrol units have a standard 5-speed manual, while the 115PS petrol and the 105PS diesel, a 6-speed stick shift. Optionally, the 90PS petrol can be equipped with a 6-speed automatic.
Mazda said it will show the new 2 at three upcoming motor shows in Zurich (5-9 November), Vienna (14-18 January) and Brussels (15-25 January), before it reaches European dealerships early next year.
