With the all-new Fabia hatchback arriving in European dealerships next month, Skoda has released full details and a photo gallery with its new supermini.

Based on VW Group’s MQB platform and available as a five-door hatchback and five-door Combi, the third-generation Fabia features an all-new engine lineup up to 17 percent more fuel-efficient that complies with the Euro 6 emissions standard.

The new Fabia hatchback is up to 65 kg lighter than the previous generation, with the lightest model (fitted with the 1.0 MPI three-cylinder engine) tipping the scales at 980 kg (2,160 lbs). The model has a best-in-class boot volume of 330 liters (11.6 cu-ft) for the hatchback and 530 liters (18.7 cu-ft). That’s despite the fact that the new Fabia hatchback is 8mm (0.31in) shorter and 31mm (1.22in) lower than its predecessor. It is, however, 90mm (3.54in) wider.

The engine lineup includes a total four petrol and three diesel engines, all fitted with a Start-Stop System and brake energy recovery system. Petrol engines have outputs ranging from 60 PS to 110 PS, while the new three-cylinder diesel engines offer between 75 PS and 105 PS. The engines are mated to manual or automatic DSG transmissions.

The most fuel-efficient model is the Fabia GreenLine, which will be available from 2015. It promises an average fuel consumption of 3.1 l/100 km (75.9 mpg US) and CO2 emissions of just 82 g/km.

For the first time, the Fabia is offered with a range of customizing options for the interior and exterior. For instance, there are four colors for the roof, the mirror housings and the wheels. KESSY (Keyless Entry Start and Exit System), the automatic locking and starting system, is another first for Fabia.

The new Fabia is the first Skoda to offer the option of easy pairing with a smartphone thanks to the MirrorLink technology. There also the SmartGate function, which enables display, storage and use of certain vehicle data.

Standard features include, among others, the enhanced electronic differential lock function XDS+ and the new C-EPS (Column-Electric Power Steering), which replaces the electro-hydraulic power steering used previously.

Among the 17 “Simply Clever” features there’s an ice scraper in the fuel filler flap, a multimedia cradle located in the cup holder at the front, an extra storage compartment for a high-visibility vest, a rubbish bin located in the door and storage nets on the inside edges of the front seats.
