Nissan Canada and JD Motorsport Organization have announced the launching of Canada’s cheapest racing series, the 2015 Nissan Micra Cup in the province of Québec.
The one-of-a-kind racing series is said to offer the lowest running cost of any Canadian series and features Canada’s most affordable vehicle, the 2015 Nissan Micra. The series is sanctioned by Auto Sport Québec (ASQ) and presented by JD Motorsport Organization with the support of Nissan Canada.
The Nissan Micra Cup exclusively features the stock Micra 1.6 S M/T model with minor modifications, including a Nismo-tuned suspension, to make it ready for racing. The series’ inaugural season will take place in Canada’s province of Québec over the course of five weekends starting in May 2015. If successful, the series may expand to other provinces in 2016 and beyond.
Drivers will be able to race on some of the most well-known race tracks in Québec and find an accurate measure of their talent, as each competing Nissan Micra race vehicle will have the exact same specifications. The cars feature the stock 109hp 1.6-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine with dual fuel injection and Twin CVTC (Continuously Variable Timing Control) mated to a stock 5-speed manual transmission.
The series will feature more than 25 Nissan Micras that will enjoy two hours of track time each race weekend consisting of a 30-minute trial, 30-minute qualifying session and two 30-minute races.
Compared to the road car, the Nissan Micra Cup features modifications including a Nismo S-Tune suspension kit, FIA-approved racing seat, 5-point harness, fire extinguisher, modified exhaust, high-performance brake pads, safety cage, driver protection net, front and rear towing hooks, and stylized Fastwheels wheels with Pirelli low profile high performance tires. The Nissan Micra Cup will be available available by special order to JD Motorsports for the final price of 19,998 Canadian dollars (US$17,807), including the installation of all aforementioned parts, but excluding taxes.
