Even though the fifth-generation Corsa hasn’t arrived in dealerships yet, Opel says it has already received 30,000 orders Europe-wide for the new supermini.
The 30,000 orders were placed since August, when sales of the new Corsa began, with deliveries expected to start at the end of the year. Order books opened in Germany first but now the Corsa is available in almost all major European markets. The new Corsa will be in dealerships in major markets by the end of the year and in remaining markets by January 2015.
“The new Corsa has had an excellent start. Even though the customers have not been able to see it at the dealers and test drive it yet we are already receiving numerous orders. That demonstrates that we have a convincing package of design, technology and price,” said Peter Christian Küspert, Vice President Sales & Aftersales Opel Group.
Opel hopes the new Corsa will help it considerably increase market share in Europe during the next few years. The automaker says the new model is not just popular in Germany, but also in other important markets including the United Kingdom and France.
For Opel, Corsa’s success is essential, as the nameplate makes up around a quarter of the carmaker’s overall sales. GM’s European subsidiary sold over 12.4 million units of the small car since the launch of the first generation 32 years ago, 3 million of which are represented by the fourth-generation Corsa between 2006 and 2014. Even in its last year on the market, the Corsa D has been Opel’s best-selling nameplate in Europe.
