It seems Renault is not the only mainstream manufacturer ditching its conventional MPVs in favor of something of a more crossover-esque orientation. We learn that Opel/Vauxhall will be doing the same with two of its familiar people movers, the Meriva and Zafira – this confirms a previous report.
AutoExpress has learned from inside sources close to the company that this is indeed happening and that replacements for the current models could arrive by 2016. The two will be co-developed with PSA, and it’s fair to assume that the French company will also be making its own interpretations based on the same underpinnings.
They’ll even be made by PSA, apparently.
The new crossover models could share the showroom floor with the conventional MPVs, before these are phased out, which could be later than the projected 2016 release date.
Keep in mind that even if the models will share suspension and drivetrain components with Peugeots and Citroens, the body and interiors will be intentionally different, so as to give future buyers the illusion of individuality.
