As expected, the Porsche Macan crossover has been an options goldmine for its maker.
Porsche North America CEO Detlev von Platen told Automotive News last week that he’s extremely pleased with the launch of the Macan this year, the company’s second SUV.
So pleased, in fact, with customers who order the Macan adding an average of 30 percent to the starting price of the Macan S and between 12 and 14 percent for the Macan Turbo. That means the S is getting about $15,000 in options over its roughly $51,000 starting price, and the Turbo some $10,000 in extras over its base MSRP of around $73,000. A big jump.
And von Platen says those Macan buyers are “younger, with more women than we have seen normally, and they are more urban.”
What’s more, with the long waiting list for the Macan, von Platen says more than 100 customers have taken up Porsche’s offer to lease a Boxster or Cayman while they wait for their SUV.
The Macan is just looking more and more like a win for Porsche. No wonder they’ve backed out on building that entry-level roadster.
