Four new models have been added to Porsche’s stretched out 911 range, all with the GTS moniker, including a Coupé and a Cabriolet, available with either rear- or all-wheel drive.
We knew that Porsche was preparing a second generation of the 911 GTS, but we were expecting the Germans to wait for the pending facelift before introducing it. Apparently, we were wrong.
Just like Stuttgart’s other ‘Gran Turismo Sport’ badged cars, including the Boxster GTS, Cayman GTS and Panamera GTS, the new 911s get a little more power, tweaked chassis and some bespoke styling touches over their lesser counterparts, which in this case, are the Carrera S models.
Power from the 3.8-liter flat-six rises 30hp to 424hp (430PS) allowing the PDK double-clutch gearbox–equipped Coupe to hit 100km/h (62mph) in 4.0 seconds and the Cabriolet in 4.2 seconds.
The top speed of each GTS model is over 300 km/h (186mph) with the fastest model being the Coupe with a 7-speed manual and rear-wheel drive at 306km/h (190mph). Porsche says fuel economy numbers remain unchanged over the S models.
All versions feature Porsche’s Sport Chrono package, the PASM active damper system that lowers the car’s ride height by 10mm over the Carrera S, and a throatier sports exhaust system as standard.
Non-Porschephiles might be able to tell that they’re looking at a GTS from their Carrera 4 wide body with flared rear wheel arches and a wider rear track (just in case you don’t, there’s a GTS badge there too), a unique front bumper, smoked bi-Xenon headlights, dark chrome exhaust finishers and matte-black 20-inch wheels.
Inside, the seats and door panels are trimmed in a combination of Alcantara and leather, with the steering wheel and the headliner featured in Alcantara.
In the States, excluding a $995 destination fee, the 911 Carrera GTS starts at $114,200 for the Coupe and at $126,100 for the Convertible, and the 911 Carrera 4 GTS at $120,900 in Coupe and $132,800 in Cabriolet form.
First cars will arrive in European showrooms this November, with North America to get the 911 GTS in December.
