Volkswagen has officially confirmed that there will be a second-generation CC and a new Passat Alltrack, both based on the all-new Passat for Europe. This is good news and bad news for VW fans in the United States, as they will only get the CC and not the Passat Alltrack.

“The sedan and the station wagon are done. Now we are working on derivatives such as the CC, the plug-in hybrid, and the Alltrack,” VW brand chief designer Klaus Bischoff told Autogramm, the company’s employee newsletter.

Production of the current VW CC will continue for another two years, as the car was only facelifted last year. The second-generation model will be positioned as a sportier alternative to the European Passat, with which it will share the lightweight MQB architecture.

In the US, however, the CC will be even more sophisticated than the locally-built Passat. Although it is scheduled to receive a facelift next year, the US Passat will still be based on the heavier and less advanced PQ46 architecture.

While the US market is not likely to get the next generation Passat Alltrack, VW will offer an alternative for it in the shape of the larger three-row SUV previewed by the 2013 CrossBlue concept.
