Could it have been any other way?
Not trying to sound like an ignorant sod, but since there are no real constraints for cubic capacity Stateside, why wouldn’t Exomotive plonk a big V8 in a tube frame-strengthened chassis and call it the Exocet XP5 (after a rocket/flying fish…)?
Exomotive is a kit car building company operating in Roswell, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. They currently offer five models, and the Exocet is one of them.
It uses Mazda Miata (MX-5) running gear with a torsional rigidity-boosting “exoskeleton” on top, because it’s “easy to build, lightweight, low cost and massive fun. A brilliant concept aimed at the novice car builder.” Buyers of the kit can choose to keep the Miata’s four-pot, or throw it away and just use a V8 crate motor.
The vehicle you see in the video below is the Exocet XP5 and it features an LS3 V8 (visible), which pumps out 525 hp and uses a Cadillac CTS-V diff at the back to put it all to the ground.
It features the new design body for the Exocet kit (see the strip of photos below) – if you check out their site, you’ll notice the vehicle in the video looks different (and more modern) to everything else they have on there.
Looks pretty good to us, and we bet it’s masses of fun if the handling is as sorted as they say it is.
