Since Bentley created the Grand Convertible, basically a two-door, drop-top version of the Mulsanne, it couldn’t possibly be that big of a stretch for them to make a hardtop too?
Theophilus Chin didn’t even have to design a completely new roof for it, using/adapting the one from the recently unveiled Audi Prologue concept.
It fits pretty well and creates a very believable Bentley Grand Coupe. Obviously, being a yacht for the road, the extra rigidity of a roof would not be particularly important, though it could help in creating an even more potent version than the Mulsanne Speed. There’s probably more power to be extracted from the six-and-three-quarter-liter V8 – it now makes 530 hp and 1,100 Nm / 811 lb-ft.
The notion of “a driver’s Bentley” seems somewhat contrived, but if I were a sheikh, I’d definitely put my name down for a gold-plated one right away…
