Chevrolet teamed up with motocross legend Ricky Carmichael to build the Colorado Performance Concept, a vehicle aimed at motorcycling and cycling enthusiasts.
Carmichael chose the mid-size Colorado pickup as a base for this project because it is more maneuverable than a full-size truck. “
Where I take my bikes, a full-size truck isn’t always the best solution, so a maneuverable midsize truck like the Colorado is just the ticket. Besides a cargo bed that’s not only large enough to haul a motocross bike and a mountain bike, the Colorado has the power to confidently take them where the pavement ends,” Carmichael said.
The Colorado Performance Concept features unique equipment to facilitate the bikes’ mounting in the cargo bed. The vehicle features a concept tailgate extender which helps secure the bikes, while the standard CornerStep rear bumper makes access to the bed easier.
The concept mounting is designed to hold larger items such as bikes, boards and kayaks above the bed, leaving room for smaller gear such as tents and sleeping bags in the bed. Chevrolet says it can even accommodate 4×8-foot sheets of plywood above the wheelhouses.
Styling-wise, the Colorado Performance Concept features a matte gray exterior color combined with high-gloss silver and yellow accents as well as a graphic of Carmichael’s signature. The custom pick-up rides on production 17-inch Z71 aluminum wheels accented with yellow highlights and shod with Goodyear Duratec off-road tires. A concept sport bar was also added to the bed.
Inside, the study features yellow accents as well, along with Carmichael’s racing number 4 embroidered into the front seat headrests. The Colorado Performance Concept is powered by the 305hp 3.6-liter V6 engine and features a concept performance exhaust system.
