Smart is just releasing its redesigned 2015 Fortwo and ForFour families, but attention has quickly turned to when the company will get around to releasing the hotter Brabus versions.
The Smart Fortwo Brabus has historically been one of the most lunatic little small cars you can buy. With the third-generation car’s stronger focus on driving dynamics (and finally benefitting from transmissions that may actually work), a hot Smart could truly be an entertaining proposition.
A Daimler executive told Autoblog a Brabus Smart is “on the table,” but not totally approved yet, even though spy shots of an upcoming Brabus Smart have been floating around for months now.
There’s a financial consideration probably weighing over Daimler’s head, though, about how viable the hotted-up Smart really is. But such costs could be shared with a future Renault Twingo RS 133, because there’s a gap for another fast city car right there. In fact, Autoblog‘s math works out that a suitably fast Smart could bring around 130 horsepower from a little turbo’d three-cylinder, close to what the old fast Twingo had.
So Smart, quit being coy and just admit to a new Smart Fortwo Brabus. And say that the full-power version is finally coming to the U.S., please.
