There are few cars that embody the 1980s with more style than the Ferrari Testarossa, produced from 1984 to 1991 in a remarkable run of more than 7,000 units.
It’s one of the most iconic and easily recognizable Ferraris of all time, thanks to its sleek Pininfarina-designed body with unmistakable air intakes on the sides as well as its appearance in the Miami Vice TV series.
But despite the hardcore looks and mid-engine layout, it is not a supercar, with Harry Metcalfe likening it more to a GT. This particular car featured in the latest episode of Harry’s Garage is a 1987 model, a recent addition to the collection.
Powered by a 390hp 4.9-liter flat-12 engine, the Testarossa is not a slow car even by today’s standards, with a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) time of 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 290 km/h (180 mph). Still, that doesn’t make it a supercar, as Harry Metcalfe explains in the video posted below.
