Here’s your chance to own a vehicle that has been part of the Brunei Royal Family’s famous car collection, a low-mileage Jaguar XJ220.
To be offered for at Silverstone Auctions’ sale at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show in Birmingham, on November 15, the green Jaguar supercar was hand built by TWR Jaguar in Oxford in 1994 before being shipped to Brunei by special order of the Royal Family. The car remained in the collection until September 2002, covering just 1,412 miles from new.
The Jaguar returned to the UK in September 2002 and became the property of a flamboyant champagne dealer before being purchased by the current owner. The car has now covered just less than 6,000 miles (9,656 km) and its MoT certificates date back to 2002.
Chassis number 220693 was recently restored by renowned specialists Don Law Racing of Staffordshire, but they didn’t have much to fix, since the car has had little use over recent years. The car received a fresh paint and an internal retrim. Estimated to fetch between £200,000 and £220,000 at the auction this weekend, the Jaguar XJ220 is said to be in mint condition.
“These incredibly rare cars are one of our favourite supercars of all time. This is a fantastic example with a great history and very low mileage. It’s such a stunning design that still looks good nearly 25 years on,” said Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions.
Jaguar built just 281 XJ220s over a three year period. Powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 producing 542hp, the XJ220 accelerated from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.5 seconds and reached a top speed of 213 mph (343 km/h), making it the world’s fastest road car at the time.
