Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales said that the automaker will unveil the facelifted Evora at the 2015 Geneva Auto Show.
Following the launch of the Exige S with automatic transmission and the Elise S-Cup, Lotus will focus its attention on the Evora, with the 2+2 mid-engined coupe to get its first facelift at next year’s Geneva Auto Show.
Gales said the facelifted Lotus Evora will be heavily revised inside and out, receiving about 15 percent more power and less weight. According to the executive, the 2015 Evora will beat competitive Porsches for performance. Lotus will later launch a lightweight Cup range that will be even lighter and possibly more powerful.
Lotus plans a similar revamp for the Exige in 2016, with the model to gain extra power and shed some more weight. Jean-Marc Gales also said the company is preparing a surprise, a model that will continue what the super-lightweight 2-Eleven track day special began.
Further products could also include a lightweight crossover sports car based on an existing model, but its future depends on reactions from Lotus customers in focus groups. “We won’t have the funds to build all-new cars in the next few years. In any case our existing platforms have plenty of potential,” Gales told Autocar.
Lotus is expected to build 2,000 cars this year, but the CEO believes the company is capable of volumes close to 10,000 cars a year if it moves to building four-door models for a completely new sector.
