If you order a Ferrari 458 Speciale now, your order may be cancelled if somebody else orders one with more equipment than yours.
That’s apparently the case as Ferrari is speculating the hype and demand this (one of the last naturally-aspirated models they’ll ever make) will generate and thus be in extremely high demand.
MotoringResearch quotes Magnitude Finance director, Tim Marlow, who explained:
“One client ordered the car many months ago but he was subsequently advised to increase the options he selected to guarantee delivery simply because others are prepared to pay over the odds to get one new. We have another client who has successfully secured the car using our finance and he said between placing his deposit and the balance, the agent he bought it from contacted him on five occasions to say others wanted to buy it if he changed his mind.”
The 458 Speciale is seen as a future classic, and Ferrari taking the liberty to give your car to somebody else if you don’t comply makes sense (only) in the context of their whole exclusivity philosophy. It’s not what you’d call fair, although if you want the Speciale, chances are you are a collector and can afford it, whereas if you just want to buy a mid-engined V8 Ferrari for which you’ve been saving, you just get the regular 458.
