It looks kind of funny with that snakeskin-emulating wrap and toy car wheels, but Ford’s new “King Cobra” package for the 2015 Mustang GT means business with a 600+ hp supercharged V8.
Revealed at the SEMA Show in concept form, the King Cobra package can be replicated by any Mustang owner willing to dig into their pockets and order Ford Racing’s “Drag Pack,” “Handling Pack,” and “Super Pack”.
The Drag Pack adds heavy-duty half shafts and a rear sub-frame kit with pre-installed high-performance bushings, while the Handling Pack lowers the 2015 Mustang GT by around an inch with front and rear lowering springs, and includes new rear shocks and a stabilizer bar kit.
The Super Pack is where all the magic happens as it includes a 2.3L Twin Vortices Series (TVS) supercharger assembly, co-developed and co-branded by Ford Racing and ROUSH Performance, giving the 5.0-liter V8 more than 600 ponies.
“We wanted Mustang enthusiasts to be able to open up the Ford Racing parts catalog and get one of everything and see what they could get,” said Ford Racing director, Jamie Allison. “We think the King Cobra package is it. But none of this great work would be possible if Team Mustang had not built the best production Mustang yet.”
Ford said it recently took an early version of King Cobra package on a 2015 Mustang to Michigan’s Milan Dragway and managed to record a quarter mile run in 10.97 seconds, which is even better than the production-ready 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat’s 11.2 seconds.
