With the advances made in materials and building techniques in recent years, there are now those rare topless cars that have the same road behavior as their roofed counterparts.
Ferrari says the 458 Speciale Aperta is one of those cars, but EVO failed to discover if this fact was true, since it was pouring out on the day they tested it.
Even so, it proved remarkably progressive and predictable, even in the wet, though outright pace was hard to judge. In said conditions, reviewer Jethro Bovingdon suggested it’s impossible to tell it apart from the regular 458 Speciale.
The bottom line is we’ll have to wait for a different test, hopefully in drier conditions, to allow for more accurate judgment of the Speciale Aperta’s qualities, as well as the discrepancy between its and the regular Speciale’s abilities (there should be something as it’s 50 kg heavier).
