The new Infiniti Q30 has finally come out of the shadows with our photographers capturing the first shots of the prototype model before it debuts in 2015.
From the pictures, it seems like the production shape and design details will be very close to the Q30 Concept displayed at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show, with only minor practical changes and alterations such as the bigger mirrors, door handles and more protruding bumpers.
We expect the same to happen with the study’s interior that was very-production like in the first place, minus the over-the-top trimmings and accents usually found in motor show concepts.
The Q30 will ride on Mercedes-Benz’s new front-drive MFA platform that underpins the new A-class, GLA and CLA models, with Infiniti’s model purportedly blending elements from all those three models (hatchback, crossover and coupe/sports).
While Infiniti has avoided discussing powertrains, it’s reasonable to expect that the Q30 will use a similar petrol and diesel engine lineup to the Mercedes compacts, as most of these units have been co-developed with Renault-Nissan.
Infiniti’s first compact hatch will be produced at Nissan’s Sunderland factory in England and it will rival the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, BMW 1-Series and Audi A3. The Japanese brand has also confirmed the development of a taller-riding QX30 crossover version.
