Thanks to its new four-door cars, Maserati was even more profitable than Ferrari in the third quarter of this year.
According to AutoNews Europe, Maserati’s quarterly profit roughly doubled over the same period last year, to 90 million euros. That just edged out Ferrari’s 89 million euro profit due to the fact it set aside 15 million euros as severance to send off former chairman Luca di Montezemolo in September.
The news comes on the heels of Fiat Chrysler’s announcement it would spin off Ferrari as a separate company in order to get some funding for the company and investors.
Maserati rode on its tripling of sales compared to the first 9 months of 2013, putting its total through September at 26,428 vehicles. More than two-thirds of that figure is thanks to the Ghibli sedan that was introduced this year. The Quattroporte is its second best-selling vehicle.
