The Polaris Slingshot looks really cool with all its obvious angular bits – it’s even more striking to look at than the KTM X-Bow, probably partly due to it having only one wheel at the back. But what does it handle like? Matt Farah finds out when he takes it for a spirited drive on his favorite bit of windy road.
Farah discovers the Slingshot is actually quite competent around the bends, and while it does show some understeer, it doesn’t seem excessive. As a package, it seems pretty stable, most likely due to its very wide front track.
One area where this basic version failed to impress, particularly while going downhill, was its braking performance. Its floating calipers for the front wheels didn’t provide sufficient stopping power and you reportedly have to lean on them a bit.
Even so, the Slingshot makes for an interesting proposition, given that it’s not actually classed as a car and the fact that it costs $19,999.
