MINI seems to be wrapping up testing of its new John Cooper Works(JCW) hatchback, as evidenced by this prototype that’s wearing final production parts.
Unlike the last tester we saw in May, this space grey JCW is fitted with model-correct front and rear bumpers with additional air intakes, as well as an even bigger brake kit with red calipers on all four corners.
Company sources have noted that the hottest MINI Hatch will get power from a fine-tuned version of the BMW Group’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four producing around 230-horsepower, or about 15hp more than the previous model’s 215hp (218PS) 1.6-liter turbo.
The new lump will drive the front wheels through a new six-speed manual gearbox or optionally, an updated automatic transmission with the same number of gears.
For the first time, the JCW Hatch will offer buyers the choice of both three- and five-door body styles, with the car expected to make its world premiere within the next few months, possibly as early as the Detroit Motor Show in January 2015.
