Mini is exploring the world of two wheels with a prototype for a kick scooter with an auxiliary electric drive named Citysurfer.

The scooter weighs in at a light 18kg or about 40 pounds and is completely foldable with Mini claiming that it can easily fit in the luggage compartment of their latest 3-door hatchback.

With the electric motor that draws energy from a high-performance lithium-ion battery enclosed in a water proof housing that’s integrated permanently in the frame under the foot board, the Citysurfer can reach a top speed of up to 25km/h (15mph) and has an electric driving range between 15 to 20km (10-15 miles).

Once the battery is depleted, the electric motor automatically switches off and disconnects from the free-wheel hub in the rear wheel allowing the rider to travel by foot power. The battery can be recharged when the scooter is on the move by means of brake energy recuperation. A charging socket allows riders to charge their phones as well.
