We don’t really get why Dany Garand, the head of Audi’s TT exterior design effort, was sitting next to one of the new cars, talking about its lines, when these were hidden behind chocolates…
Yes, that’s right, chocolates that had been stuck to the new coupe’s body because… it was being shown at a Belgian lifestyle and design exhibition and the Belgians like this sort of thing (?).
Aside from the car being hidden from view, Garand’s explanation of why it looks the way it does is insightful/useful. He explains that Audi really did want to give up the curvy/bubbly way in which it had styled the previous two cars (and especially the first-gen), aiming for much more clearly defined proportions.
Even so, they managed to make it look like a TT should, so when you see one on the street, you really won’t confuse it with anything else.
