We’ll know in less than 48 hours if Mazda will reveal the production version or a lightly disguised concept of its new CX-3 at the LA Show, but for now, we can show you a camouflaged prototype of the small SUV.
The CX-3 is built on the underpinnings of the latest Mazda2 sub-compact hatchback and it will sit under the compact-sized CX-5 in Mazda’s SUV lineup targeting the likes of the Nissan Juke, Opel Mokka, Fiat 500X, Jeep Renegade, Chevrolet Trax etc.
The spy shots hint at a sharp looking crossover featuring Mazda’s “Kodo – Soul of Motion” design language with a large front grille similar to the one found in the facelifted 2016 CX-5 and Mazda6 that will be presented at the LA Auto Show this week as well.
Mazda has said that the CX-3 will get “the full range of SKYACTIV technology” with the engine range believed to mirror the Mazda2, which means that in Europe, it could get a 1.5-liter petrol in 90PS (89hp) and 115PS (113hp) outputs together with a Skyactiv-D 1.5-liter turbo diesel delivering 105PS (104hp) and 220Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque. The North American lineup should include the petrol but not the diesel lineup.
