The all-new Smart Fortwo and Forfour models are now available for order in the UK, where they start at £11,125 and £11,620 respectively.
As you may know, the new Smart shares its underpinnings with the Renault Twingo, though it differs a lot in terms of look/styling; the Twingo’s UK range kicks off at £9,495 (£2,125 less than the Forfour).
Engines on offer are the exact same ones you get in the French car: a 1.0-liter non-turbo with 71 hp and the TCe90 900cc turbo with 90 hp. The only difference is the availability of a six-speed dual-clutch autobox.
Efficiency for the Fortwo is rated at 68.9 mpg for the 71 hp unit, while the more powerful one averages a claimed 67.3 mpg; they emit 93 and 97 g/km CO2 respectively. The Forfour will, at launch, only be available with the lower-powered engine which can average 67.3 mpg and emit 97 g/km CO2.
Both models will be offered in a choice of three trims called “passion, prime and proxy.” Even the base “passion” trim gets 15-inch alloys, automatic climate control and Bluetooth connectivity as standard. Opt for “prime” and you get black alloys, a panoramic sunroof, black leather upholstery, heated front seats and “additional dashboard instrument pods with a cockpit clock and rev counter are a returning smart staple.”
Finally, “proxy” enlarges the alloys to 16 inches, ups the quality of some interior materials, lane keep assist and a Sports Package. The latter adds “a sports leather multifunction steering wheel, suspension lowered by 10 mm, rubber studded alloy sports pedals and an exhaust finisher in chrome.”
There’s also an “edition#1” model on offer with unique touches to set it apart from lesser models.
