If you live in a typically crowded city where oftentimes you’d be better off just parking your car somewhere and continuing your journey by other means, then the OneWheel could be a solution.
It’s basically like half a Segway, using only one wheel and computer brains to keep things balanced.
You ride it kind of like you do a regular skateboard, and you control it by tilting your body in the direction you want to go. It seems tricky to master, but it’s not impossible.
The OneWheel would be nice to have stowed away in your trunk, since it’s compact and it has enough range and performance to make the last leg of your journey swift and… not sweaty.
It takes about two hours to recharge on a standard outlet, and then offers 4-6 miles (7-10 km) of autonomy at a top speed of 12 mph or ~20 km/h. Certain functions can be controlled via a smartphone-integrated app.
Should you be interested in obtaining one, you can now do so by pre-ordering for around $1,500; first deliveries begin in December.
