We know Tesla Motors is connected to Mercedes, which it provides with EV know-how and electric powertrains for the B-Class, but now it seems the want to partner up with BMW too.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk told Der Spiegel that they are talking about a possible collaboration with BMW, which would center on battery technology and/or charging stations, as well as carbon fiber-reinforced plastic components.
He even alluded to the possibility of building a battery pack plant in Germany, citing the announced news that the sole factory currently operating in this area (the Daimler’s Li-Tec plant in Kamenz) was being shut down.
When asked about a possible plug-in hybrid twist to the collaboration, Musk denied it explaining his disapproval for such cars which he likened to amphibious vehicles that are “neither particularly good on land or in the water.”
