Mercedes has no plans to create a fixed-roof coupe variant of its current SLK. Even so, Theophilus Chin has created a rendering to show us what one would be like, and maybe make us think of one based on the next-gen model.
Based on aesthetics alone, we say the roof suits the current SLK too. It does look better from the rear three-quarter view than from the front, but neither is really offensive.
It would obviously have handling (rigidity) benefits as well, and maybe Mercedes could look to create its own proper small sports car. Something to sit beneath the AMG GT with engines no bigger than a V6.
The SLK replacement will receive a new name too – it will be called the SLC. Mercedes could make a slightly different hardtop model out of that and call it something else, the position it as sharper drive in the range with slightly more power (like Porsche does with the Cayman and Boxster).
