Volvo Truck continues to promote its new I-Shift Dual Clutch transmission, the first ever dual-clutch gearbox for production heavy trucks, this time with an unusual track duel between its 540hp FH truck and a 1,360hp Koenigsegg One:1.
Pitting an eight-tonne Volvo FH against one of the world’s fastest cars may sound absurd, but the challenge was interesting: to see if the Volvo truck can cover one lap of the Knutstorp race track in southern Sweden quicker than the Koenigsegg can cover two laps.
The Volvo FH truck was driven by experienced motor racing personality Tiff Needell, who had never raced in a truck before. The Koenigsegg One:1 was driven by factory test driver Robert Serwanski, which makes the duel seem even less favorable for the truck.
“I-Shift Dual Clutch is absolutely incredible. It is particularly noticeable on slopes, the truck does not hold back – it just flows smoothly, without the gear changes being felt. When you brake, it switches down very softly and comfortably. The truck definitely has the heart of a sports car,” said Tiff Needell.
