VW showed up in Los Angeles with two hot Golf R models, the production Golf R Variant and the still conceptual Golf R 400, but only one of them still might be sold in the US.
Reason would dictate that a production car making its world premiere on U.S. soil would most certainly fit the bill.
However, a VW spokesman surprised us when he told us that they have no plans to sell the Golf R Variant in the States, leaving us with the hope that the rumors about the Germans green-lighting the Golf R 400 are true and that VW will bring this one over here.
Whereas the estate model shares the same 296hp (300PS in Euro trim) 2.0-liter turbocharged four driving all four wheels through a 6-speed DSG, the 400R has a 400PS (394hp) 2.0-liter turbo coupled to AWD and a six-speed manual offering the wide-body three-door hatch some serious performance of the 0-62mph (100km/h) in 3.9 seconds kind.
Fingers crossed…
