If you thought the 240 PS output of the new 2.0-liter TDI found in the B8 Passat was impressive, then read on. VW has revealed an even more powerful variant of the engine that uses an electric booster to achieve 272 PS or 268 hp.
Torque is not specified, but it’s safe to say it will be more than the 500 Nm the 240 PS unit has. Also, with the use of an electric blower throttle response and turbo lag are both significantly improved, therefor making the engine more fun and responsive on the move.
At the same event, in Wolfsburg, Germany, VW also announced its ten-speed DSG autobox. It’s rated up to 550 Nm, so it’s clear that it could very well be used in conjunction with the 272 PS diesel, as the torque figure seems just about right for it.
