The Hellcat is, for lack of a better term, a hell of a car. It’s 707-horses should make it a match for basically anything you throw at it, especially from a rolling start. But some races just aren’t fair.
What we have here is a Chevrolet Camaro packing a custom cam and a 150 nitrous shot, unfortunately we can’t know for sure exactly just how unfair this race was considering the Chevy’s advantage. If we were to guess, we’d say that while accelerating, it should be putting out at least 150 PS more than the Challenger in order to get that type of separation from it. Plus the weight advantage (around 700 lbs).
Next up we get to see the Hellcat race a Mustang Shelby GT500, and again, we don’t know a lot about it except that it “showed 550 HP on the dyno“. After seeing the results, we’re guessing it had a few tricks up its sleeve too. Not to mention the weight difference, where that particular GT500 would tip the scale at around 3.900 lbs (1780 kg) while the Challenger Hellcat weighs in at about 4.400 lbs (1995 kg).
So despite everything, we can’t really draw a lot of conclusions from this video. Extremely modified cars should always compete against other similar cars that have had work done on them. Racing custom vs. stock is never fair and hardly ever revealing.
